This pizza sauce is a quick and easy version of the roasted garlic pizza sauce that we use on our butternut squash pizza (pictured below). Instead of roasting the garlic, we saute it in butter which saves a lot of time and results in a more robust garlic flavor.
Ingredients needed
This garlic pizza sauce uses simple ingredients that you likely have in your kitchen. Once you pull the ingredients together and make the sauce, all that's left to do is smother it on your favorite pizza dough and top it to your heart's desire!
- Butter: use butter for a rich flavor for this sauce. You can also use olive oil, but it will have a lighter flavor.
- Garlic cloves: Mmmm, garlic. You'll need finely minced garlic as the star of this show.
- All-purpose flour: This will thicken up the sauce so it's the right consistency for the base of a pizza.
- Milk: constantly whisk the milk so that it gets bubbly and thick.
- Grated parmesan cheese: parmesan goes in at the very end, and whisk until it's combined and smooth. Use freshly grated parmesan for the best flavor and texture. Other firm cheeses such as grana padano or pecorino also work well.
- Sea salt & pepper: add seasoning in small amounts, or to your taste.
