Also try the classic, fresh mint mojitos or switch up the berry for a blackberry mojito.
This twist on a classic mojito is just the sidekick summer needs. You know that time of year when strawberries smell as good as they taste, my goodness that's the perfect time to whip up this fresh strawberry mojito! The strawberries will go into a simple syrup and complement the fresh herbs so nicely. It's fizzy, fresh, and fruity.
Strawberry basil mojito breaks the mojito mold
You may be wondering how this differs from a traditional mojito, and the answer lies in the strawberry-basil combination. Fresh mint, basil, and in-season strawberries will have your taste buds singing and taking note of how this fruity upgrade stands out from the standard mojito.
What's in a strawberry mojito
- Strawberries: the rest of the drink is the supporting cast, and the strawberries are the star here. Fresh strawberries are great, but frozen and thawed will also work. They will go into a strawberry simple syrup.
- Mint: Mint is one of the five traditional ingredients included in this Cuban cocktail and it's so necessary. This gives the flavor we know and love, that's why this recipe calls for 6 whole leaves!
- Basil: It would be accurate to call this a strawberry basil mojito ā because the three basil leaves in this recipe make for a gentle herbaceous sip!
- White rum: another traditional ingredient used in the mojito, white rum gives this a real ākick back and relaxā kind of vibe as it's a light-bodied spirit perfect for a rum cocktail recipe. You can experiment with other alcohols like vodka, gin, or tequila, however, it may take away from that classic mojito flavor.
- Lemon juice: Adding a bright note to the drink, freshly squeezed lemon juice complements the strawberries. Traditionally, fresh lime juice is used, which will also work in this recipe.
- Soda water: or club soda will give that nice fizz to the cocktail.
What's strawberry simple syrup?
A simple syrup is made up of equal parts water and sugar and is standard in many cocktail recipes. For this strawberry mojito recipe, add chopped strawberries to the sugar-water mix to infuse that summer flavor into your simple syrup. It's our easy to make strawberry simple syrup recipe that will take this mojito over the top!
How to make a strawberry mojito
Four steps to make the perfect strawberry mojitos that will take you 15 minutes, including prep time:
- Begin by making the strawberry simple syrup by simmering strawberries, sugar, and water. It's simple, takes 5 minutes, and is absolutely worth it!
- Let the strawberry simple syrup cool and then strain it.
- Add the mint, basil, and simple syrup to a cocktail shaker and muddle for about 30 seconds to release the flavor from the herbs.
- Strain your strawberry mojito into an ice-filled glass, top it with soda water, and garnish!
How to muddle the ingredients
Muddling is a great way to extract flavor from fruits and herbs to infuse them into your mojito (or any cocktail for that matter). Typically, a muddler is used, however, if you don't have one on hand you can also use any blunt object you have in your kitchen to gently press and twist the fruits and herbs. The back of a wooden spoon works perfectly in a pinch!
Make a strawberry mojito pitcher
This recipe makes one mojito, however, if you want to do some summer entertaining you can easily turn this into a pitcher of strawberry basil mojitos.
All you need to do is use cups instead of ounces. Muddle 1 cup of strawberry simple syrup with a handful of basil and mint leaves. Strain it into a pitcher then stir in 1 cup of white rum, Ā½ cup of lemon juice, and 2 cups of soda water. You can double or triple the recipe as needed.
Make it a strawberry mojito mocktail
Sometimes skipping the alcohol is the way to go. This virgin strawberry mojito is perfect for a baby shower, young adult birthdays, or perhaps you're simply looking for a fun drink, minus the alcohol.
To make this recipe a mock-mojito, simply follow the same recipe and omit the white rum. There you have it ā a refreshing summer sip that everyone can enjoy!
Garnishes for your strawberry mojito cocktail
Half of what makes this drink so appealing is how gorgeous it looks in the pitcher or glass! Here are some ideas for garnishes that will add light flavor and also look like you could dive right into this refreshing cocktail:
- Chopped strawberries or other berries, like raspberries, blueberries, or blackberries
- Lemon rounds or lime wedges
- Fresh mint leaves

I made this recipe using only half the sugar advisedāabout 55 gramsāand it was still way too sweet. Next time I will try making it using only maybe 1/8 of the sugar you suggested.
Did you use only one ounce of the simple syrup? There is enough simple syrup to make many mojitos. š
I made this last night for my girlfriends and they LOVED it!!
Followed the recipe exactly and it did not disappoint!
Thank you for sharing.
I’m so happy the recipe was a hit!!
Thanks kristen for sharing your wonderful recipes.
You are so welcome! š
Looks so delicious and refreshing!
Okay so I want to make this but am unsure by what you mean when you say soda water? Did you mean club soda or tonic water? They taste different to me so I wanted to use the correct one.
Soda water! You’re right, they are different. Tonic wouldn’t taste right in this recipe. Any bubbly water will work – club soda, Pelligrino, ect. Hope that helps!
This looks so good! Been reading your plugin recommendations, Is this recipe made using easyrecipe? Thanks for sharing.
About a year ago I switched to using Tasty Recipes, which is what I use for all new recipes now. It is a premium (paid) plugin but I really like the features it has as well as the way it looks. Hope that helps!
I love anything with basil, and this looks super tasty.
Hi Christina,
The recipe can definitely be made in larger quantities. My mom actually told me she made a big pitcher of it last year for a BBQ.
The recipe is good for one drink so you’ll just want to increase the amounts by however much will fit into the pitcher you have. You can either add the soda water to the pitcher or have it on the side so that guests can put as much of it as they want in their glasses.
Hope you have a great family party!
I wonder if you could give the recipe if making it in a pitcher. I would like to make this for a family get together, but don’t want to have to make it per glass as I have a large family and this would make me the bartender, not the hosest. It looks so tasty!
Great looking drink. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you!
Not sure if you’d noticed, but I think some of your code is displaying incorrectly on the recipe? Or maybe it’s on my end?
btw: I love this photo. Yum!
Hey Regan,
Thank you for giving me the heads up. I really appreciate it. All looks good on my end so I’m not sure what was happening. Hope you’re having a great weekend!
This is wonderful! I must make this one soon!
Thanks, Alisa. Let me know how you like it. I’ve absolutely fallen in love with them š
Holy moly! These sound so fabulous. I went through a mojito-craze phase when I went to Cuba a few years ago, too — and I don’t think the phase has ended. Cannot wait to try these!
Hey Katie,
It’s so hard not to go on a mojito crazy after Cuba, they’re so delicious! Hope you enjoy this one as much as I did!
I love mojitos and strawbs too so I have to try this very soon, thanks.
Have pinned for another day.
You are so welcome, Debs!
I made this recipe for my girls luncheon — they were sooooo good. I blended the strawberries in the syrup and that was delious too. Thanks for this recipe, I will be making this many times more!
That’s an absolutely great idea to blend the strawberries. I will definitely be doing that next time for sure!
