This matcha lemonade is part tea, part lemonade, and 100% refreshing! It’s naturally sweetened with honey, and it’s the ultimate thirst quencher for any occasion, any time of year. With just four ingredients, it’s easy to mix up, and it’s ready in 5 minutes!

Matcha Lemonade in a glass pitcher

This matcha lemonade is bright, refreshing, and full of flavor, with the smooth, earthy taste of matcha balanced by fresh lemon’s crisp acidity and a gentle sweetness from honey. If you’ve ever ordered a matcha lemonade at Starbucks, this is a copycat version you can easily make at home—and in my opinion, it tastes even better. The matcha imparts a subtle grassy depth to the drink, while the lemon keeps it light, clean, and incredibly refreshing.

It comes together with just four simple ingredients and takes only a few minutes to make. I dissolve honey in a little hot water, whisk the matcha into a smooth paste, then stir everything together with cold water, fresh lemon juice, and plenty of ice. It’s crisp, balanced, and endlessly sippable—perfect for patio afternoons or anytime you’re craving that Starbucks-style matcha lemonade at home.

What’s the best matcha to use?

I’ve tested this recipe with both culinary and ceremonial grade matcha, and they both work well. Ceremonial-grade matcha is higher quality with a brighter green color, but it’s also more expensive. Culinary-grade matcha is usually a bit darker and is specifically meant for drinks like lemonade, smoothies, and lattes, which makes it a great (and more affordable) choice for this recipe.

Ingredients

  • 6 cups water (divided)
  • ½ cup honey (or maple syrup)
  • ¼ cup matcha

Instructions

  • Add the matcha and ½ cup of cold water to a cup and mix it until the matcha becomes a paste. See notes.

  • Add the matcha paste, honey simple syrup, lemon juice, and the remaining 5 cups of water to a pitcher and stir. Add a few handfuls of ice cubes and stir again.

Notes

Some matcha dissolves easier than others. If yours doesn’t dissolve fully, you may want to strain it through a fine-mesh sieve before adding it to the lemonade so there are no little green bits in your drink.
To make a single serving of matcha lemonade, use these amounts:
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 2 teaspoons matcha
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
