The only Asian salad dressing you'll ever need
This orange sesame ginger dressing has been a game-changer in my kitchen lately. It's creamy and flavorful and I love how it transforms even the simplest slaw. It's also really versatile so I'll often add a little extra tahini to thicken it up and then use it as a dip for salad rolls or crispy chicken. Even if you're not short on time, you'll appreciate how quickly it comes together!
Three reasons I'm loving this orange sesame dressing:
- It's got that yummy sweet and savory flavor thing happening.
- It's so easy to make. Literally just add all the ingredients to a jar and shake. That's it!
- It's full of healthy ingredients and makes us want to eat more salad!
This orange sesame dressing works well with all sorts of Asian-inspired salads from crunchy slaws, to leafy greens, and even noodle salads. Even if you're short on time, grab a bagged cabbage mix from the grocery store. Ditch the dressing that comes with it, and shake up this fresh one up instead. Your body will benefit from the clean ingredients, and your taste buds will thank you, too.
It lasts for up to 10 days so I've used the leftovers as a dip for veggies or fresh spring rolls, as a marinade for fish or chicken, and even drizzled over a grain bowls.
I like to sprinkle in some white or black sesame seeds for a bit of texture and visual appeal!
Ingredients notes
This flavorful salad dressing is full of simple, fresh ingredients.
- Mandarin orange: you need about a Ā¼ cup of fresh mandarin juice, so depending on the size of you oranges, you may need a couple.
- Tahini: tahini is made from ground up sesame seeds, and has a mild, nutty flavor.Ā It gives this dressing its creamy texture!
- Avocado oil: we use avocado oil, but other lightly flavored oils works, too.
Other ingredients you'll need are toasted sesame oil, rice wine vinegar, honey, soy sauce, garlic, and ginger.
Frequently asked questions
If you don't find the answer you're looking for here, you can ask it in the comments below, and we'll get back to you as soon as possible!
How long does it last in the fridge?
You can store this dressing in the fridge in an airtight container or jar for up to 10 days.
Can I use extra virgin olive oil?
You can, but we don't recommend it. Most olive oils are too strongly flavored for this dressing, so we recommend a neutral-flavored oil like avocado oil, grape seed oil, or canola oil.
Can I use any type of orange?
Yes, any fresh orange juice will work, but mandarin oranges have a unique sweet-tart taste that we love in this recipe.

Kristen, Kraft has discontinued their Mandarin dressing for some reason and its not available in any supermarket or even Amazon. It had rave reviews everywhere.. Go figure. For male gastronomically challenged like myself are you able to make up batches of your Mandarin dressing and send them to Canada?

Wonderful recipe! Nice and creamy and perfect with the carrot salad that I made.Ā
Very oily, the ratio of oil from the tahini, avocado and sesame must be incorrect.
It sounds like you may need to shake the dressing a little more. Once the oil is incorporated into the rest of the ingredients the dressing will become nice and creamy.
