One of the very nicest things about life is the way we must regularly stop whatever it is
we are doing and devote our attention to eating.

The Endless Meal My name is Kristen and I like food. I like it a lot. I like it so much that I have decided to write about it, photograph it and share it with you. I grew up in a rural neighbourhood in Kelowna, BC and moved to Vancouver shortly after college. I’ve travelled the world and have seen many amazing things, but Canada’s West Coast always keeps me coming back for more. Perhaps it is the great food we have here.

I spent nearly 12 years as a vegetarian and the last year trying to convince myself that I still am. These days it seems like it is an outright lie when I say I don’t eat meat; usually because I’m chewing on a piece of bacon as I make that claim. Besides bacon I also like peanut butter, avocados, tomatoes, blue cheese, mint chocolate chip ice cream, whipping cream, peaches, my granny’s apple pie and many, many other yummy things.

I believe that tomatoes and peaches should only be eaten in the summer and that pigs should lead nice lives before they wind up as bacon on my plate. I also believe that when my nephew, and your nieces and nephews and children and grandchildren, grow up, they deserve to see (and eat) the fishes that swim around our oceans; I choose my seafood with this in mind. I encourage you to do the same.

I love my life and feel inspired by the many great people around me. I love sharing ideas with people and if you’d like to share some of your thoughts with me, I’d love to hear from you. If you’d like you can email me at kristen@theendlessmeal.com or leave a comment on any one of my posts :)

Kristen,

I dig your blog!

I love good food, as we all do. But I rarely take the time to prepare a decent meal, never mind a quality dish. Scrolling through your site I came across ~ Tomato, Cucumber & Avocado Salad… for Breakfast! I’m all over this and can’t wait for next weekend. You speak so passionately about it, that the first time I try it might be with dinner.

I’ll let you know how it goes.

Bon Appétit

Hi Kristen,

The blog looks great! My taste buds are thinking about that great cranberry sauce and the Amaretto poached pears. I will have to keep that in mind for the next turkey meal at Christmas!

I’m looking forward to seeing more food ideas!

Just happened by your blog and added to my RSS reader. Really enjoy what you’ve got going on here. Just trying to get started myself, and it’s so fun, difficult, weird, exciting, frustrating, soul-satisfying… Wouldn’t it be awesome to find a way to make what we love to do… what we do? Maybe one day! Supper Club sounds fun. Best of luck to you!

Thank you, Marianne! I definitely agree about it being fun, difficult, weird, frustrating and soul-satisfying. Do stick with it, the difficult, weird and frustrating part definitely takes a major backseat as you get into the swing of things. Good luck with your blog!

Why visitors still use to read news papers when in
this technological globe the whole thing is existing on web?

Ok, you’ve just made my long weekend… I spent a lot of time eating Pachos at Kelly O’s in Kel in the early 90′s, but I’ve been in Calgary for a long time and just recently had a craving after seeing an ad for waffle cut fries…always wondered how the Emerald Isle sauce was made and your site was the first one Google found for me. On my way to get everything to make a huge batch right now, it’s 10pm here.

Anyway, cheers Kristen…you rock!

P.S. The County Cork wings were another fav…

You’ll have to excuse an old man, but the sandwich looks great. Would love to attempt to build it but, what is SRIRACHA butter. Could you email me an answer?
Thank you.

Hi Josef,

I made sriracha butter buy mixing together some sriracha with some butter. Sriracha is a spicy garlic chili sauce that you buy in a bottle with a green lid and a rooster on the front of it. You can see my post about it here: http://www.theendlessmeal.com/spicy-sriracha-butter/ :)

Hi Kristen!

You have a beautiful site and just wanted to say hi!

I came across your website on food gawker looking for a new meatball recipe to try tonight. I live in the White Rock area and have a small (and hopefully growing!) food blog myself.

Will you attend the FBC conference in Van this year?

All the best!

Hi Lisa,

Thank you so much!

I just checked out your blog and am seriously drooling over the espresso crusted pan seared steak. OMG!

So happy to hear that the conference is here this year. I am definitely going to do my best to be there. Will you be there too?

Hey Kristen,

Thank you for this wonderful site! I grew up only an hour drive away from you in Penticton, BC and we sure do have an abundance of food down there in the valley! Growing up there has made me fall in love with food, especially summer harvests!

I also wanted to tell you that I have been going through depression and it’s gotten so bad I literally stopped caring for myself. Not eating, drinking water, exercise, etc. No, I don’t take meds, I refuse to. Part of the depression is being home sick. When I stumbled across your vegetarian chili recipe I commented on earlier, it reminded me of my dad’s vegetarian chili. So I cooked it up and it was fabulous. Exactly what I needed to nourish myself physically and mentally. I still miss home, but in a good way.

Thank you for this site, you have re-inspired me to get back into the kitchen because cooking and food for me are therapeutic, healthy ways to keep me happy. <3

Take care, I'm sure I'll comment again on other recipes!

Hi Shelley,

Thank you so much for sharing your story. I totally agree that cooking is therapeutic. There’s something about preparing food and sharing it either with yourself or with others than nourishes your soul.

I’m really happy to hear that you have been re-inspired to cook and take care of yourself. That’s a big step in the right direction! Find the beauty in the small things and don’t stop taking care of yourself.

Love your blog. I am very into food also, but lawyer by day keeps me too busy for much else. I envy your dedication to your blog and to food. I tried your green smoothie this morning for breakfast. It was delicious. I definitely need to invest in a vitamix though!

All the best,
Emily

Hi Emily,

Thank you so much! I do love being able to share my love of cooking with others.

I highly recommend getting a Vitamix. I’m not normally into most kitchen gadgets but I absolutely love mine. My guy even jokes that my Vitamix is the love of my life. It is certainly the love of my kitchen life. :)
