You’ve seen the viral TikTok Boursin cheese pasta – now, you’re going to want to get to know my stovetop rendition. I’ve made this so it’s velvety, dreamy, even easier to whip up, and, dare I say, even more delicious. Plus, you don’t even have to turn your oven on. Let me show you how to win hearts with this Boursin cheese pasta.

A white bowl filled with creamy Boursin Cheese Pasta, mixed with spinach and topped with ground black pepper.
This is one of my favorite quick-and-easy dinner recipes. It comes together almost ridiculously quickly, and it’s great served on its own or as a side. 😋

If you’ve been following social media trends, you’d have seen the progression of the cheese pasta sauce: We started off baking feta. Then, we swapped out the feta for some flavor-packed Boursin in the oven. Now, I bring you the stovetop version that will steal your heart.

Boursin Cheese pasta is everything creamy pasta dreams are made of. Whisk this garlicky, flavor-packed cheese down into some cream so it becomes luscious and saucy. Add a handful of spinach, and you’ve got yourself a no-fuss weeknight vegetarian dinner that takes just 20 minutes! But why switch things up to the stovetop?

Why cook Boursin pasta on the stovetop

  1. Time: It’s quicker than baking, making it the best choice for when you want dinner now! It’s perfect for busy weeknights.
  2. Desired consistency: The stovetop method yields an even melt, ensuring a creamy, clump-free sauce.
  3. Incorporation: Adding cream and the reserved pasta cooking water while melting the Boursin is super easy and yields the most luscious result. The cooking water contains the starch released from the pasta, so when you add it to the melted Boursin, the starch acts as a natural thickener, coating the pasta in a glossy, silky sauce!

Variations to try

This pasta with Boursin cheese is super versatile, so you can add various ingredients to mix it up and keep things fresh. Here are some of my favorite picks:

  • Mediterranean vibes: Fold in some sundried tomatoes, olives, capers, and fresh basil.
  • True to trend: The viral TikTok recipe includes baked cherry tomatoes. For the stovetop version, throw in a handful of grape tomatoes sliced in half.
  • Mushrooms: Sauté sliced mushrooms in garlic and butter until they’re golden, then toss them in the mix, or make my miso mushrooms!
  • Extra veggies: Add zucchini, shallots, bell peppers, peas, or asparagus for a bit of color.
  • Protein: Some tender shrimp would be perfect in here. Or make my Italian seasoning chicken, slice it up, and serve it over top.
  • Meaty: Crisp up some pancetta or speck, or stir some prosciutto into the pasta.

Store and reheat Boursin pasta

Store: Transfer it to a covered container once it’s cooled to room temperature. It can be stored in the fridge for 3-4 days.

Reheat: Creamy pasta can sometimes be a bit dry when reheated on the stovetop, so if that’s the case, add a splash of cream or milk to loosen the sauce.

Recipe video below. This recipe is a stovetop version of the viral TikTok Boursin cheese pasta. But my version is easier to whip up and, dare I say, even better in flavor! You don't even need to turn your oven on for this velvety, dreamy pasta dish. Get ready to impress with minimal effort!

Ingredients

  • 8 ounces short-shaped pasta
  • ½ cup whipping cream
  • 1 5.5 ounce container Boursin cheese (I like fine herbs and garlic flavor)
  • 2 cup baby spinach (packed)
  • Salt and pepper (to taste)

Instructions

  • Place a large pot of well-salted water on high heat. When it comes to a boil, add the pasta and cook according to the package directions. Remove 1 cup of the cooking water (a Pyrex measuring cup works well for this), and then strain the pasta and put it back into the cooking pot.

  • While the water boils, make the sauce. Add the whipping cream and Boursin to a small pan over medium heat. Whisk until the cheese melts into the cream.

  • Add the spinach to the cooked pasta, pour the sauce over top, and stir well. Slowly pour in the reserved cooking water, a few tablespoons at a time, until the sauce is super creamy – you won't add all of the water. Season to taste with salt and pepper.

Notes

Pasta: While I like this best with short-shaped pasta, you can use any shape you want. Twirlable pasta works well, too.
Milk: If you use milk instead of cream, you’ll need to add a little flour to thicken the sauce.
Spinach: I’ve stirred in some steamed broccoli instead of the spinach, which also works well!

I halved this recipe, for two of us. Followed the recipe. The note said I could add steamed broccoli, which I did. Oh, and I added the Italian Seasonings Chicken, as well. What a hit. Pasta is creamy and full on flavorful. The chicken was tender, tasty, and looked 100% gourmet! Kristen knocked it outta the park on yummy.

Wow the sauce is amazing. I cut recipe in half because I only had a small amount of pasta and doubled the spinach. Boursin is so expensive here in Nova Scotia….over $8 CAD. Because I made only half the sauce I have enough Boursin for another meal…unless we eat it all on crackers.
