Curl up on the couch with a slice of this comforting apple banana bread and a cup of tea. This version uses no oil and less sugar, making it a quick breakfast on the go or an anytime treat. It’s easy to make and ready in about an hour!

Apple Banana Bread slices on a plate

I love how versatile banana bread is, and I’m convinced there’s a version for every season. In this apple banana bread, I use applesauce and yogurt to keep the loaf tender and moist, letting the apple flavor really shine. It’s the kind of bake that feels cozy and familiar, whether I’m grabbing a slice on the way out the door or sneaking one mid-afternoon.

The streusel topping is optional, but I almost always add it. That sweet, crunchy layer on top makes the loaf feel a little extra special — and it looks beautiful, too.

I like to keep a loaf on hand for those moments when friends pop by, and coffee or tea suddenly feels like a good idea. And honestly, it’s worth making two. One for now, and one to share with a friend, a new parent, or anyone who could use a comforting homemade treat.

Store and freeze

How long does this apple banana bread last? This loaf will stay fresh at room temperature for up to 3 days.

Can I freeze it? Absolutely! Once it’s cooled completely, you can either slice it or freeze it whole in an air-tight container for up to 3 months.

Check the banana bread after 45 minutes and, if it's browning on the top, cover it loosely with foil. Let the banana bread cool on your counter for 10 minutes then invert the pan to remove it then let it cool completely on a cooling rack.
