Cute Super Bowl Sunday Desserts: chocolate football spoons

We’ve got a sweet treat for you: chocolate football spoons! These MVP Super Bowl Sunday desserts are no fumble – they are super simple to make: melt some chocolate, add any delicious flavor additions, and pipe on some icing! The best desserts for Super Bowl Sunday are delicious, handheld, shareable, and can be made in advance. Your guests will love them.

Got mini football fans who would love a mini chocolate football? These little guys would be super fun and easy for kids to help make. Just swap the booze for flavor extracts! These also make fun treats for a football-obsessed kid’s birthday party or to celebrate your sports team’s end of the season.

Add-ins

This Super Bowl Sunday dessert is made from simple ingredients: shaved dark chocolate (or use another kind of chocolate), butter, icing sugar, and water. Here are some ways to customize them:

  • Optional add-ins: A little bit of bacon, or cinnamon and chili powder for an spicy chocolate flair, or mix in a little peanut butter.
  • Liqueur optional add-ins: Creme de menthe for mint chocolate, Malibu for coconut chocolate, Espresso vodka for mocha coffee chocolate, Brandy for boozy chocolate, Amaretto for almond chocolate.

Toppings

These super bowl desserts are super customizable, so you can make them your own, or mix and match so you can try a few! Here are some ideas of what to add:

  • Sprinkles: Sprinkles are super fun and you can play with the colors.
  • Edible glitter: Adds a little sparkle for some glamour!
  • Crushed nuts: Adds a crunchy texture and nutty flavor.
  • Chocolate shavings: Chocolate on chocolate sounds like a win to us!
  • Coconut flakes: Add a little chewiness and subtle sweetness.
  • Sea salt: Balance the sweetness with a complex, savory contrast!

Storage

If you have leftovers (which might be unlikely!), you can store them.

Once the melted chocolate has set, it can be stored at room temperature or in the refrigerator. Either way, store it in an airtight container. If your kitchen is warm, the fridge will extend the shelf life.

Ingredients

The Chocolate Spoons

  • ½ cup shaved dark chocolate
  • 1 teaspoon butter
  • Optional: 1 tablespoon of one of the add-ons

The Icing

  • ¼ cup icing sugar
  • 1 teaspoon water

Optional Add-Ins

  • Mint Chocolate – Creme de menthe
  • Coconut Chocolate – Malibu
  • Coffee Chocolate – Espresso vodka
  • Boozy Chocolate – Brandy
  • Almond Chocolate – Amaretto
  • Bacon Chocolate – Add a little piece of bacon to the bottom of the spoon
  • Aztec Chocolate – Cinnamon and chili powder
  • Peanut Butter Chocolate – Mix in a little peanut butter

Instructions

For the chocolate

  • Melt chocolate, butter, and, if using, one of the optional add-ins in a small saucepan over low heat.
½ cup shaved dark chocolate, 1 teaspoon butter

For the icing

  • In a small bowl, whisk the icing sugar and water. Add the icing to a pastry bag fitted with a tiny tip. You can also use a resealable plastic bag and cut the tip off of one of the corners.
¼ cup icing sugar, 1 teaspoon water

To assemble

  • Lay two wooden spoons on a baking tray. (This is to level the spoons.)
  • Using a teaspoon, pour some chocolate into a spoon then gently tap the spoon on your counter to level the chocolate. Place the spoon on the baking tray, resting the handle on the wooden spoon. Repeat with the remaining spoons. Set aside until the chocolate is firm.
  • Draw on the stitching using the icing so the spoons resemble a football. Let icing harden before serving.
