With just a handful of simple ingredients and five minutes, you can make this firecracker sauce, too! It’sWith just a handful of simple ingredients and about five minutes, I can whip up this firecracker sauce anytime the craving hits. It’s sweet, spicy, and packed with bold garlic and ginger flavor, with a rich kick that makes it instantly memorable. If you’re familiar with sweet chili sauce, this is along the same lines but deeper and more robust—very similar to Johnny’s firecracker sauce, only homemade.

I love making sauces from scratch because I know exactly what’s going into them, and this one couldn’t be easier. Everything gets stirred together in a bowl and stored in a jar until I’m ready to use it, and it keeps well in the fridge for up to three weeks. The base is a balanced mix of buffalo sauce, honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, garlic, and ginger, which makes it incredibly versatile.

Ideas for using firecracker sauce

This bold sauce is what I use on my firecracker salmon and similar to the one that I use in my firecracker meatballs, but I also reach for it far beyond those recipes. It’s great brushed onto chicken, shrimp, steak, or wings, tossed into stir-fries, or served as a dipping sauce for fries or fried chicken. Once you have a jar in the fridge, you’ll find yourself adding it to just about everything.

Notes

Using garlic granules and ginger powder allows you to keep this sauce in your fridge for a very long time. But if you’re using it right away, freshly grated ginger and minced garlic are wonderful. If you use fresh, this sauce will keep for one week in your fridge.

This was so good! It was a bit hot so I added some greek yogurt and it made a cream spicy sauce for my salmon tacos!

That sounds absolutely delicious! The Greek yogurt trick is such a smart way to cool things down and make it creamy — perfect for salmon tacos. I’m so happy you loved it! 💛

A local restaurant ran a special last week of chicken or steak stir fry with firecracker (they called it fireworks)sauce. It was absolutely delicious so my search began. I even tried mixing my own version, buffalo wing sauce and sweet n sour sauce. Easy and not bad but not quite what I wanted. After 2 other very similar versions, I like your version the best. Thank you
