This baked BBQ salmon is recipe that I make when I need to get dinner on the table quickly. It takes no time at all to get into the oven and despite its simplicity, my family loves it. The BBQ sauce turns thick and glaze-y and goes so well with the salmon. One thing to note is that salmon can overcook and turn dry very quickly. When broiling, prioritize perfectly cooked salmon over a dark char.
Ingredients
2 lbsalmon, cut into pieces - see notes
½ teaspoonEACH: garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper
Some sort of vegetable - I like steamed or roasted broccoli
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Cut the salmon into serving-sized pieces and dry it well with paper towels. Season it on the top side with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper
2 lb salmon, ½ teaspoon EACH: garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper
Transfer the salmon to the baking sheet and spread the BBQ over the top and sides. Don't worry too much about the exact amount, a generous coating is what you're after.
½ cup BBQ sauce
Bake the salmon for 8 minutes. Then, turn your oven to broil and broil for 3-4 minutes (see notes) until cooked through.
Serve the salmon with corn rice and your favorite veggie side - like broccoli.
Notes
Salmon: This recipe works with both salmon and steelhead trout. I usually buy a side of salmon and cut it into pieces. If you want to bake the whole side, it will take 12-14 minutes plus a few minutes under the broiler. Cooking time: Salmon cooks very quickly. If you ever see a recipe that tells you to bake a piece of salmon for 30 minutes, please don't! 8-10 minutes is all a piece of salmon needs to cook. I like my salmon cooked to 125-130 degrees Fahrenheit, when it's cooked through but still very tender. The FDA recommends cooking it to 145 degrees Fahrenheit, making it a bit drier. Please don't cook it any more than this, or it will be too dry. When broiling the salmon, prioritize cooking it to the proper temperature rather than getting dark charred marks.BBQ sauce: Since this is the primary flavor, make sure to use one you like. My BBQ sauce for chicken is also very good with salmon. Sweet Baby Ray's is always a crowd-pleaser.Broccoli: I like to serve this with steamed or roasted broccoli. If you're roasting it, pop it into the oven about 10 minutes before the salmon.
